Condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Eric Brevard,DC of Longview

I just learned of the tragic death of Dr. Eric Brevard , a fellow Chiropractic doctor in Longview. Apparently, Dr. Brevard was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Friday , 15 June 2007, as he was on his way to see his son at the George W. Pirtle Scout Reservation on Lake Murvaul in Panola County. I never had the honor of meeting the gentleman nor knowing him, but from what I understand, prior to becoming a doctor, he had been a policeman and a fireman, and apparently, was a leader in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the end.

I and the entire staff of BAKER CHIROPRACTIC, PA send our most heartfelt condolences out to the family and friends of Dr. Brevard, and pray that God grants them peace in this time of loss.

I notice in the article online about his passing that a friend of his said he always put his family first. And, it is clear from his work choices, that he spent his adult years in service to his community, as a policeman, fireman, and doctor. I know Dr. Brevard will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and patients.

This does, as all unexpected deaths, bring to mind each of our own mortality. Each time we get on the road, we run the risk of losing our lives. The second thing it brings to mind is how each of us will be remembered. Each day, we build a legacy of how we will be remembered. Were we kind to strangers, were we honest in our business dealings with others, did we treat each person we met, friends and strangers alike, with kindness and respect?

The memory we leave is not something we create after we die, but while we live. Dr. Brevard's untimely death should remind us that we do not live as islands, adrift in a sea of strangers, but we live lives that can make a positive change in the lives of not only each person we meet, but also, of generations to come.

In the occupations that Dr. Brevard worked in, as a policeman, fireman, and doctor, each day he had the possibility that he could save a life or at least, make that person's life better. And, if he saved the life of someone who went on to have children, his one act of intervention could send a ripple that reverberated through time.

Whether we are in a position to save a life, or just give an honest , sincere, warm smile to a stranger, we can make a positive difference in this world.
